Hancock responds to secretary of state’s comments about election issues

June 11, 2020–5:33 a.m.

The chairman of the Floyd County Commission Chairman Scotty Hancock has responded to comments made in the media by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger regarding problems that arose during Tuesday’s Election.

Raffensperger was quoted as saying that issues across the state were the result of a lack of training and planning by county elections officials and not a machine error.

Hancock responded in a letter on Wednesday.

He wrote that local elections officials were informed by a company representative that the Dominion machine provided by the secretary of state’s office was not configured correctly to process approximately 12,000 absentee ballots.

As of late Wednesday afternoon, there was still not a final vote total due to the software problem.

Hancock went on to say that Raffensperger’s comments implied that the problems had to do with a lack of leadership at the local level, which was not the case.
