Elderly Cartersville man beaten during home invasion dies

A man who was attacked in his home on Floral Drive in Cartersville on Wednesday evening died as a result of his injuries, according to Bartow County coroner Joel Guyton. 86-year-old Calvin Lee was airlifted to an Atlanta area hospital but was unable to recover from the home invasion. The suspect has not yet been identified by the Bartow County sheriff’s Office. Before the news of Lee’s passing, the BCSO released the following on Friday morning, stating the suspect:

“Has been charged with initial counts of burglary, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of criminal trespass. the  offender, in this case, will face more charges once the investigation is completed and further assessment of the victim’s injuries.”

When deputies arrived on the scene Wednesday evening, it was discovered the resident had been assaulted with a board by the suspect, who was being held at gunpoint by a neighbor. The suspect had been shot several times by a neighbor when he attempted to assault them with a metal post. The neighbors who assisted will not face any charges.
