Two accused of traveling to Floyd County to meet a minor for sex

Two men, one from Polk County the other from Chattooga County, were jailed Tuesday after allegedly traveling to Floyd County with the intent of committing acts of child molestation.

According to Floyd County Jail records, 38-year old Timothy Eugene Gates made contact with someone he believed to be under the age of 16 on a mobile dating app.

He then reportedly engaged in a graphic conversation, sent sexually explicit pictures and videos, and then traveled from his home in Aragon to Floyd County to meet the child.

Meanwhile, 39-year old Raymond Paul Thurman of Summerville was arrested for similar acts.

Both Gates and Thurman are charged with criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation, sexual exploitation of children, use of a computer service to entice a child to commit an illegal act, and obscene internet contact with a child.

Gates was additionally charged with electronically furnishing obscene materials to a minor.

Thurman was additionally charged with reckless conduct and a parole violation.
