Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters says that the Georgia DOT notified the county on Monday afternoon that the Chattooga River Bridge on Highway 27 near The Summerville News will be closed for a period of time.

Flooding has brought the water up to the edge of the bridge and the state will be checking the bridge for structural integrity on Tuesday.

Commissioner Winters says that motorists should be prepared for the bridge to be closed starting Monday evening and going through a good part of the day on Tuesday.

Motorists and EMS will need to use Highway 100 until the bridge is reopened.
