Masked man arrested Friday following pursuit

A 65-year old Rome man is facing multiple charges after leading police on a chase Friday that ended when he crashed into a patrol vehicle.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Duane Eugene Horton of a Thornwood Drive address failed to yield for Rome Police cars, fled into a car dealership on Highway 411 and then turned onto Chateau Drive, running stop signs at Saddle Trail and the red light on Highway 101.

He then accelerated to over 80 miles per hour headed inbound to Rome, passing vehicles in the median and traveling in the grass.

When Horton crashed into a police car on Sunset Drive, he was pulled out of his vehicle.

He was wearing a mask and had suspected synthetic marijuana.

Horton yelled “Is this [expletive] place open or closed?” according to the report.

He is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, possession of a controlled substance, DUI, wearing a mask to conceal his identity, disorderly conduct, failure to maintain a lane, running a stop sign, running a red light, and failure to yield for an emergency vehicle.
