Man implicated in multiple thefts now in the Floyd County Jail

A man wanted for several thefts in the area is now lodged in the Floyd County Jail.

Authorities issued a lookout for 31-year old John James Shillibeer II in January and he was captured in Arkansas in early February.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Shillibeer went onto someone else’s property on Old Dalton Road on December 27, entered the victim’s vehicle and took a wallet containing credit cards, a driver’s license, and $60 in cash.

On January 13, Shillibeer allegedly entered a patio on Mallard Landing and took a refrigerator valued at $1,500.

On January 15, he reportedly entered a vehicle on Hugh Stewart Road and took a Thompson Center 45 caliber Muzzle Loader valued at $1,000.

The next day Shillibeer took a 2007 Chevy Silverado valued at $15,000 from a location on Donahoo Road.

Then on January 17, Shillibeer took a 2010 Honda Civic valued at $4,500 from a residence on Old Dalton Road.

While trying to elude police, Shillibeer crashed the Honda into a fence.

He fled on foot and remained at large until he was captured in Osceola, Arkansas.

Floyd County Police say he was in a vehicle stolen in Memphis, Tennessee at the time of his arrest.

Shillibeer is charged in Floyd County with two counts of theft by taking a motor vehicle, 1st-degree burglary, three counts of entering an automobile, felony theft by taking, criminal trespass, 2nd-degree criminal damage to property, loitering or prowling, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, obstruction of officers,  reckless driving, hit and run, failure to maintain a lane, driving on the wrong side of the road and a probation violation.
