The Rome City Commission could vote during their March 9 meeting on a contract with RedSpeed USA for speed detection cameras on Veteran’s Memorial Highway at Rome High School.

Commissioners discussed the issue during their Monday night caucus.

In September, the commission approved an ordinance that allows the city to enter into a future agreement with a provider.

A traffic study in the school zone at Rome High showed 300 violations in a single day.

According to the State Law, the speed detection cameras have to be set 11 miles per hour above the speed limit.

The speed limit in the Rome High School zone is 45 miles per hour, meaning motorists would not be ticketed unless they were going at least 56 miles per hour.
