Georgia gas prices continue their upward trend compared to a week ago.

Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $2.46 per gallon for regular unleaded.

Monday’s state average is 4 cents more than a week ago, 3 cents more than last month, and 41 cents more than this time last year.

It now costs $36.90 to fill a 15-gallon tank of gasoline. That is $5.70 less than what motorists paid in May of 2018 when pump prices hit their peak of $2.84 per gallon.

According to Montrae Waiters, a spokeswoman with AAA, it is too early to tell what impact the tensions between the United States and Iran will have on gas prices.

She said the impact on consumers will be dependent on how expensive crude oil price goes and the duration at which crude sells at the higher price point in the market.

Local averages on Monday were $2.39 in Floyd County, $2.46 in Bartow County, $2.44 in Gordon County, and $2.45 in Chattooga and Polk Counties.
