Area residents can redirect some of the state income taxes they owe to fund scholarships for local three-year-olds to attend the South Rome Early Learning Center through the Georgia GOAL program.

In 2008, the Georgia General Assembly passed and Governor Sonny Perdue enacted the Qualified Education Expense Credit law that permits Georgia taxpayers to receive a state income tax credit for amounts contributed to qualified student scholarship organizations.

“Making use of the Georgia GOAL association to get funding to the early learning center is really easy and it’s a no-brainer,” said Charles Looney with the South Rome Redevelopment Corporation.  “If you pay taxes in the State of Georgia, this is money you’re going to spend anyway.  The question is, do you send it to the treasury or whatever or do you keep it local and have that money support the early learning center.”

He said the process is easy, just go to goalscholarship.org and fill out the form.

The South Rome Early Learning Center is the result of a three-way partnership between Berry College, Rome City Schools, and the South Rome Redevelopment Corporation.
