Greg Smith, who teaches at the Floyd County College and Career Academy, has been named the Floyd County School System’s Teacher of the Year.
On Tuesday night, the Floyd County Board of Education took time to honor the Teachers of the Year from each individual school and then the three finalists were named.
Bonnie Rampley from Pepperell Primary, representing the county’s elementary and primary schools; Russ Burnett of Pepperell Middle School, representing the middle schools; and Smith, representing the system’s high schools.
Smith was then named the system-wide winner and will go on to represent the Floyd County School System at the statewide competition.
Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson praised all of the honorees.
“They are the best of the best,” he said. “The thing I love about Teacher of the Year is that you’re selected by your peers. There is something really special about your peers saying ‘you’re it.'”
