An accident on Highway 48 near Menlo on Saturday left at least two people injured and a state trooper’s car badly damaged.

According to early reports, Trooper Doug Shamblin was stopped on Highway 48  when another car plowed into the back of his cruiser, badly damaging the vehicle.  The car that hit the patrol car also sustained major damage.

After the initial accident, a tractor-trailer that was traveling on Highway 48 also struck the side of the State Patrol Car.  Onlookers say it appeared that the truck driver was trying to look at the vehicle that had hit the state patrol car when he sideswiped the patrol car himself.  Trooper Shamblin was not in the patrol car when the tractor-trailer collided with it.

Three Redmond EMS ambulances were called to the scene and at least two people, including Trooper Shamblin, were transported to a Rome hospital with injuries.
