STAFF REPORTS

Firefighters spent much of the day Friday at a large structure fire at DHM Adhesives at the corner of Oak Street and South Wall Street in downtown Calhoun.

According to Deputy Calhoun Fire Chief Terry Mills, the call came in at around 1:15 a.m. regarding some sort of explosion and fire.

One person in the building was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The fire was so large, all Calhoun Firefighters were called in, along with mutual aid from the Gordon County Fire Department and the Bartow County Fire Department.

Due to the runoff involving hazardous materials, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division has sent a cleanup crew.

South Wall Street from Prater Ford to Piedmont was closed for most of the day and Calhoun City Schools canceled classes.
