Man jailed following shooting incident

A 68-year old Armuchee man was jailed Sunday following a shooting incident on Everett Springs Road.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Thomas Harris Murphy fired two rounds from his truck toward a man.

The shots were fired within 50 feet of the victim, and one of the bullets struck the tailgate of a Ford Ranger; the other hit the victims’ garage.

Two children were inside the residence, according to the report.

Police say that Murphy admitted to drinking and had a can of beer with him during the time of his arrest.

He is charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, 2nd-degree criminal damage to property, 3rd-degree cruelty to children and discharge of a firearm while under the influence.
