Man facing multiple charges following Monday wreck

A man was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly leaving the scene of a multi-vehicle wreck on Highway 27 in front of Berry College Monday morning.

According to Floyd County Jail records, a vehicle driven by 50-year old Craton Wade McDaniel of a Hawkins Road address in Armuchee rear-ended another vehicle, causing a chain-reaction crash.

McDaniel then left the scene, abandoning his pickup truck on Old Summerville Road and fleeing on foot.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit was called in and McDaniel was arrested following a short search of the area.

He is charged with hit and run, concealing the identity of a vehicle, too fast for conditions, following too closely, driving without insurance, expired tag, duty upon striking a fixture, and obstruction of officers.

A search of McDaniel’s vehicle turned up suspected methamphetamine in the glove box and two drug-related objects in the ashtray.

Gabapentin was located in the rear passenger area of the vehicle in two separate pill bottles that were not prescribed to him.

He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of dangerous drugs, and possession of drug-related objects.
