Man arrested on burglary and theft charges

A 34-year old Rome man was arrested Thursday on charges of 1st and 2nd-degree burglary, 1st and 2nd-degree criminal damage to property and felony theft by taking.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Robert Henry Williams III of a Crosscreek Drive address took tools and copper valued at more than $2,600 from Georgia Power property on Cheney Lake Road back on June 17.

Williams is accused of causing more than $500 in damage during the incident.

He is also charged in connection with the theft of a vehicle containing tools from the property of Southern Natural Gas on Kingston Highway.

Williams was taken into custody in the 400 block of Calhoun Avenue after allegedly running from law enforcement.

He is additionally charged with misdemeanor obstruction of officers and a felony count of possession of methamphetamine.
