GBI names new Special Agent for Region One office

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has announced that Joe Montgomery has been promoted to Special Agent in Charge of the Region 1 Calhoun Office.

Montgomery began his law enforcement career in 1984 with the GBI, assigned to the Local Violators Squad where he conducted undercover drug investigations statewide. In 1986, he was promoted to special agent and assigned the Region 12 Eastman office as the Regional Narcotics Specialist. Since that time, Montgomery has been assigned to several different work units around the state to include the Region 12 Eastman office, the Savannah Regional Drug Enforcement Office, the Atlanta Regional Drug Enforcement Office, the Special Prosecution Task Force, the Special Investigations Section, the Riversweep Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Governor’s Task Force on Drug Suppression, and the Financial Investigations Unit.

Montgomery will be responsible for the supervision of the agents assigned to Region 1 office who conduct major investigations. Those include death investigations, officer use of force investigations, crimes against children, and other felonies.

The Region 1 office covers Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield Counties.
