The Rome Braves finished off a four-game sweep of division rival Greenville on Sunday, overcoming a late-inning deficit to win 6-3 over the Drive at Fluor Field.

Greenville opened the scoring with two runs in the 2nd inning despite only one hit. The runs came in on a groundout and a wild pitch. Rome had several strong opportunities to answer but left the bases loaded in both the 3rd and 4th innings. They left nine total runners on within the first 5 innings of the game.

It was in the 7th inning that Rome’s hot lineup would breakthrough.

The Braves got consecutive singles from Justin Dean and Greg Cullen to open the inning. With runners at the corners shortstop, Braden Shewmake shot a grounder down the left field line, making it 2-1. Catcher Shea Langeliers followed and drove a two-run laser into the right-center gap, getting all the way to the wall and giving Rome a 3-2 lead. Rome continued to pour it on in the inning as Henry Quintero roped an RBI double into center and Darling Florentino lifted a two-run homer over the Green Monster in left to make it 6-2 in favor of Rome.

Greenville added a late run but never got close as Rome pulled away for the win and series sweep. Rome starter RHP Jose Olague got the win as he threw 6 innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. Reliever LHP Victor Cavalieri got a 3 inning save, his first as a Rome Brave.

Shewmake went 2-5 with an RBI. Quintero was 2-5 with a double and an RBI. Florentino was 1-4 with a homer and two RBI. Jose Bermudez was 2-4 and played exceptional defense in right field.

The Rome bullpen finished the series with 17 total innings pitched and only two earned runs allowed.

Rome continues its road trip by heading to Kannapolis, North Carolina to open a three-game series with the Intimidators on Monday evening. First pitch from Intimidators Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 pm. Rome is expected to start LHP Dilmer Mejia while Kannapolis has not announced their starting pitcher.
