The 3rd Annual Heroes Unified blood drive will be held Tuesday at the Joint Law Enforcement Center and the Floyd County Jail.

Blood Assurance is teaming up with Rome and Floyd County’s nine first-responder agencies for the event.

Bloodmobiles will be stationed at both locations from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The blood drive is open to the community, according to Mandy Perry with Blood Assurance.

“Make sure to let your donor helper know which agency you’re donating on behalf of,” she said.  “We do have a little competition going this year so we do want to make sure that the agency gets credit for your donation.  As many of you know, we are critically low.  We are in a national blood shortage and Rome is no exception.  Many of our blood types are at critical and urgent levels, so every donation makes a difference for our local hospitals and patients.”

She said donating is easy

“Appointments are not required, so just stop by,” she added.  “If your schedule does not permit you to come by between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m., we do encourage you to stop by our donor center in the Midtown Crossing shopping center.  The donor center is open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Those donor care specialists can take care of you there as well.  Again, tells them who you are donating in honor of, and that will apply the same way.”

Blood Donors must be at least 18 years old, 16 and 17-year-olds with parental consent, weigh at least 110 lbs and be in generally good health.
