A 27-year old Rome man was arrested early Friday on charges of aggravated battery, misdemeanor theft by taking and obstructing a person making a 911 call.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Marquell Deandre Dammond of a Calhoun Avenue address punched a woman in the eye, rendering the eye useless for a period of time.

He also reportedly stole the victim’s cell phone as she attempted to call 911.
