One person is dead following a residential fire in North Rome Saturday morning.

According to Rome Fire Marshal Mary Catherine Chewning:

Firefighters responded to the residence on Church Street at around 10:43 a.m. Saturday.

A man in the home, 36-year-old Phillip Steven Brand, died in the fire.

A woman believed to be Brand’s girlfriend was able to make it out of the burning home and call 911.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating the exact cause of the fire.

At this time, the preliminary investigation points to it being accidental in nature.

Brand’s body will likely be sent for an autopsy.
