Tragedy struck early Sunday morning in Cartersville when a residential fire claimed one life.
At 5:04 a.m., the Cartersville Fire Department, joined by Bartow County Fire and Emergency Services, rushed to a reported structure fire on Remington Drive.
First-arriving crews found the home fully engulfed, with heavy flames spreading throughout the structure. Firefighters immediately launched aggressive suppression efforts and brought the blaze under control.
During the overhaul and investigation that followed, authorities discovered that one occupant of the home, 78-year-old Dennis Priest, had succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire.
The Cartersville Fire Department’s Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the cause of the blaze.
