After discussions with local and state officials and in alignment with our Keeping Schools Safe Initiative, all Rome City Schools will be closed, and students will have a flexible learning day on Monday, Jan. 26. All after-school activities are postponed. We want everyone to remain weather aware and stay safe.
Due to the current state of emergency issued by Governor Kemp, the National Weather Service Ice Storm Warning in effect through Monday at 10:00 a.m., and with the safety of our students, staff, and families as our top priority, Floyd County Schools will be closed on Monday, January 26. All school activities, events, and extracurricular practices are also canceled for the day. We recognize that this storm may impact school operations on Tuesday, January 27. Please keep ParentSquare notifications active for an update regarding Tuesday, which will be shared sometime on Monday.
Darlinton Schools will be closed on Monday.
Due to the latest weather forecast from GEMA indicating the potential for severe weather in the northwest Georgia region, Gordon County Schools will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026. This precautionary measure is being taken to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families amid potentially hazardous and unpredictable winter weather conditions. Gordon County Schools will continue to assess conditions in coordination with local and state partners.
Updated information regarding Tuesday’s school day will be provided as weather conditions are monitored tomorrow. Families should be prepared for the possibility of additional school closure dates and are encouraged to remain informed by our official district communication channels, including phone calls, text messages, social media, and the Gordon County Schools website.
Due to ongoing weather concerns and the threat of hazardous road conditions, Calhoun City Schools will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026. This decision is being made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families. We will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and will communicate any additional closures or delays as we evaluate the situation.
Due to the potential for significant winter weather, Cartersville City Schools will close on Monday, January 26; however, students will observe an At-Home Learning Day. Please look for communication from your child’s school on more information for At-Home Learning.
The Bartow County School System will be closed Monday, January 26th, due to ongoing weather concerns and the threat of hazardous road conditions. All schools and district activities are canceled. We will continue to monitor the forecast and share updates as needed.
Other closings and delays
Due to wintry weather, Georgia Highlands College is closed this weekend and Monday, Jan. 26. All classes and events are canceled. Normal operations expected Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Due to the potential for hazardous travel conditions, all campuses of Georgia Northwestern Technical College will be closed on Monday, January 26. All classes, activities, and events are canceled.
The Georgia Department of Public Health Northwest Health District office in Rome and health departments in Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding, Polk, and Walker counties will be closed Monday, January 26, due to anticipated hazardous weat
Due to forecasted inclement weather, Floyd County administrative offices will delay opening until 10:00 AM on Monday, January 26, 2026.
Chief Judge John E. Niedrach issued an order to close the Floyd County courthouse and declaration of judicial emergency for Monday, January 26, 2026. The courthouse will reopen on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, unless the emergency is extended by further order of the court.
The delayed opening will give officials time to assess road and weather conditions. All essential personnel will report as scheduled unless they have made other arrangements with their supervisors. Any employees who may still have traveling difficulties due to the weather at 10:00 AM will need to contact their supervisors to make other arrangements. Due to forecasted winter weather, City of Rome administrative offices will delay opening until 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026. The Rome Transit Department will also delay opening, with service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
