- A Shannon couple has been arrested following the death of a dog that was left tethered and became entangled in a brush pile. According to Floyd County Jail records and animal control officials, 32-year-old Mikey Daniel Dowdy and 33-year-old Tanya Louise Dowdy are each charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals. The white and brown chihuahua mix reportedly died from exposure while tethered in the backyard. County ordinances prohibit leaving domestic animals tethered without supervision. Both remained in jail Thursday on $5,000 bond.
- A Rome teen is facing multiple charges after allegedly running from police with a gun and marijuana. According to Floyd County Jail records, 17-year-old Christopher Eugene Akins Jr. was arrested Wednesday near Maple Avenue and 17th Street. He’s charged with felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, along with misdemeanor counts of firearm possession by a minor, marijuana possession, and obstruction. Akins remained in jail Thursday on $2,600 bond.
- A Rome woman is facing drug and DUI charges following a traffic stop in Armuchee. According to Floyd County Jail records, 61-year-old Pamela Gail Pruiett was pulled over on Dugger Drive Thursday afternoon for not wearing a seatbelt. Police say she had a Smirnoff Ice in the cupholder and smelled of alcohol. She’s charged with felony possession of Xanax and other prescription pills without a prescription, as well as driving on a suspended license and having an open container. Pruiett remained in jail Thursday on $5,700 bond.
- A Rome woman is facing a felony charge after reportedly damaging a school vehicle with a machete. According to Floyd County Jail records, 27-year-old Shelby Savanah Bailey is charged with felony interference with government property. Police say she was arrested Wednesday night after cutting the rearview mirror off a Floyd County Schools vehicle parked at Armuchee High. No staff or students were present at the time, according to school officials. Bailey remained in jail Thursday on $3,500 bond.
