The community is mourning the loss of John Pillsbury.
Pillsbury served on the Board of Directors of the Rome Free Clinic and was a member of the Rome Kiwanis Club.
The Kiwanis Club released a statement on its Facebook page, which read:
“We are saddened to share the passing of long-time Kiwanis Club of Rome member John Pillsbury. John’s leadership, dedication, and heart for service made a lasting impact on our club and in our community. In his honor, we recommit ourselves to serving the children of our community and carrying forward the legacy he so proudly committed the last 30+ years of his life to. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this time.”
Pillsbury worked for Georgia Power for more than 32 years before his retirement in 2000.
He also did volunteer work with the Rome Downtown Development Authority, committees for the City of Rome, NW Georgia Power Employees Federal Credit Union, MLK Commission, Pepperell High School, Rome City Schools, Georgia Easter Seal Society, and the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers NW Chapter.
Floyd County Commission vice-chair Scotty Hancock also said the following on his Facebook page:
“The passing of Mr. John Pillsbury has hit hard. John wasn’t just a leader in Rome — he was someone I personally looked up to. With all the negative noise, he always had a positive word of encouragement, both for our community and for many of us individually. He was always a shining light of encouragement. He had this rare way of lifting your spirits without even trying, just by being who he was. I’ll miss his steady presence, his quiet wisdom, and the kindness he showed every single time our paths crossed. Rome is better because of John, and so am I. My heart is with his family and with everyone who loved him. His legacy will keep guiding us long after today.”
