Rome and Floyd County’s four-day Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration continues today with the Freedom March on Broad Street.
Those who want to participate are asked to line up at Broad and First Avenue, and the march will start promptly at 11:30 a.m.
“That march is symbolic of what Dr. King used during the Civil Rights movement,” said Alvin Jackson with the King Commission. “The thing I like about it is that it gives people the opportunity to participate and give back to the community. We always have a great turnout for that. People look forward to it. We started with five, and now we are up to 1,000.”
The march will go to the Rome City Auditorium, according to Sundai Stevenson.
“Around noon, we will start our program there,” she said. “The choir will be singing again on Monday, and we will have other people doing various things. Our keynote speaker is State Representative Tanya Miller. She is a representative here in Georgia from the 62nd District. She will be our speaker. Then, after that, we will go to the Rome Civic Center for our free luncheon.”
Everyone is welcome to attend.
