Man charged with aggravated assault on a police officer
A West Rome man is accused of trying to take an officer’s gun during a scuffle with police on January 7 at a location on Turner McCall Boulevard.
According to the arrest warrants and Floyd County Jail records:
33-year-old Hector Fernandez also kicked and hit officers while failing to obey their commands and threatening to shoot them.
He then kicked the inside of the patrol vehicle, causing damage.
Fernandez is charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, eight counts of felony obstruction of law enforcement, two counts of attempting to remove a police officer’s weapon, two counts of terroristic threats and acts, as well as single counts of simple battery against a law enforcement officer, interference with government property, public drunk, giving a false name or date of birth, and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
Man allegedly neglected dog
A 49-year-old East Rome man is facing a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals.
According to the arrest warrant:
Benjamin Odell Hammitt failed to provide adequate food and water for a dog, causing severe emaciation and dehydration.
The dog had no discernible body fat, was showing signs of muscle atrophy, and had a voracious appetite.
Hammit is also being held on a probation violation.
Woman charged with felony theft by shoplifting
A West Rome woman is facing charges following a couple of shoplifting incidents at the Circle K on Garden Lakes Boulevard.
According to the arrest warrants:
48-year-old Denise Ann Morgan loaded a bag and stuffed her pants with items from the shelves on August 12.
The items included fruit drinks and energy drinks, macaroni and cheese, ramen noodles, chips, and jerky, valued at a combined $50
Then on August 14, Morgan returned, taking close to $60 in chips, ribs, and candy bars.
Morgan had previously been convicted of shoplifting multiple times.
She is charged with felony and misdemeanor theft by shoplifting.
Man accused of hitting a man under emergency medical direction
A Cartersville man was recently booked into the Floyd County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct, battery, and interference with emergency medical personnel.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
23-year-old Shambray O’Neal Heard struck a man who was under the direction of emergency medical personnel at a location on Turner McCall Boulevard.
