The Georgia Department of Public Safety reports that seven people lost their lives in Automobile crashes during the 102-hour New Year’s holiday travel period.
There were no fatal crashes in Floyd County, according to Captain Ron Hunton with the Floyd County Police Department.
“We were out and about, making sure everybody was doing what they were supposed to do, and making sure everybody got home safely,” he said. “Of course, in the interim, we answered calls for service and things like that. We were busy, but we are moving into the New Year, and hoping to continue working with all of the folks here in Floyd County to keep improving—not just traffic statistics and crash numbers, but just overall improvement as we keep moving forward.”
There was a fatal crash just over the state line in Cherokee County, Alabama, on New Year’s Day that claimed two lives.
In Georgia, Cobb County Police responded to a fatality involving a tractor-trailer on I-75 near Wade Green Road.
Fatal crashes were also reported in DeKalb, Bibb, Clayton, Burke County, Wilcox, and Douglas Counties.
