A milestone is coming up for Harbor House, and the community is invited to help celebrate.
To celebrate its 30th year, there will be a Birthday Bash on Saturday, September 6, at 7 p.m. at Rotary Plaza.
“It is a ’90s theme, so we are trying to take it back to the 1990s,” said Lauren Thacker with Harbor House. “We will have a ’90s cover band. We will have some good food and drinks, and just celebrate 30 years of service to the children in our community.

In 1991, the Floyd County Child Abuse Protocol Commission recommended the establishment of a coordinated system designed to respond to child abuse cases.
The committee specifically recommended the establishment of a children’s center and the creation of a multidisciplinary child abuse investigation team.
After detailed research and much effort, the Northwest Georgia Child Advocacy Center, known as Harbor House, was established in the fall of 1994.
More than 7,200 children have been interviewed at Harbor House since its establishment.
“Unfortunately, the number is even higher now,” Thacker said. “However, the good news that I can tell you is that there are people for the last 30 years—not just at Harbor House but with our partners with law enforcement, at DFCS, in our schools, and social workers—who have been committed to helping these children. So, although the number is devastating, the hope is that there are people who have and will continue to help those children and families.”
