This weekend, the inaugural Diamond and Donuts 5K will be held at AdventHealth Stadium
The event is Saturday morning.
“This is our benefit to raise money for Christmas with a Cop,” said Chris Fincher with the Coosa Valley Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police. “Christmas with a Cop is a program that we have been doing for probably almost 25 years now. We take needy kids shopping. Each kid gets an allowance of $200, but that money has to come from somewhere, and that’s where we rely on the public. We really depend on our contributions from the public to make this happen.”
The race begins at 8 a.m.
“If you want to register on the day of, registration begins between 6:30 and 7 o’clock,” Fincher said. “We are not going to be able to do some of the packages that we had initially thought or the competitive one-mile race at the end of the baseball game. However, what we are going to do is have the competitive one-mile incorporated into the 5K. So, the first mile of that race is going to be the sprint.”
Winners will get tickets to the Rome Emperors game.
“Courtesy of the Emperors, they have given us some tickets,” Fincher said. “We are also going to be giving tickets to our category winners. You have different age groups. You have the best male, best female, and masters’ winners. We are also going to have some very unique trophies, and of course, we are going to have donuts.”
