Georgia Highlands College unveiled a new landmark on its Floyd County Campus Thursday morning.
Students, faculty, and community members gathered for the reveal of a seven-foot wooden sculpture depicting a student raising a diploma, surrounded by charger horses carved in the style of chess pieces.
GHC President Mike Hobbs introduced the piece, followed by Community Engagement Leader Eric Collins, who explained that the statue was created by alumnus Jeremy Smith to honor the legacy of both past and present students.
Smith, the artist, also shared a few words about his inspiration and craftsmanship during the unveiling.
