Preliminary plans are underway for a project that has been identified as a SPLOST priority by Floyd County Officials.
The improvements to Chulio Road, which are due to receive $6 million from the city and county, have been discussed since the 1990s.
Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord recently gave an update.
“We did have a preliminary staff review after some field work had been done over the last several months,” he said. “We will be planning a community meeting in the future for that right-of-way, as well as the preliminary plan for review.”
The project includes widening the roadway, improving shoulders, adjusting horizontal and vertical alignment, and making intersection improvements to Chulio Road from Boyd Valley Road and to the intersection with US Highway 411.
Chulio Road is located in both the City of Rome and unincorporated Floyd County.
Residential areas, including Woodfin Estates, Twickenham, and Hampton Preserve, will benefit from the project.
Southern Engineering & Surveying, Inc. has been awarded the contract for design services.
