The Rome City Commission held a public hearing Monday regarding the proposed North Rome Redevelopment Plan.
The boundaries for the North Broad Redevelopment Corridor consist of more than 1,700 parcels, and a smaller area consisting of 22 parcels near the Varsity could be the next Tax Allocation District.
“You may recall we have had conversations about the possibility of a new Hilton Home2 Suites hotel that has expressed an interest in this particular redevelopment area,” said Rome City Manager Sammy Rich. “That necessitates the need for us to continue to move this forward.
No one spoke during the public hearing.
The commission will schedule A meeting for the purpose of considering the approval of the redevelopment plan in the next 45 days.

Commission approves landfill task orders
The Rome City Commission has approved task orders related to the Walker Mountain Landfill.
Atlantic Coast Consulting assists the city with the landfill and the task orders are for various work, according to Rome City Manager Sammy Rich.
They’ll be working on the C&D monitoring wells, an update to the solid waste management plan, and doing a study for our disposal and tipping fees,” he said. “We have some of the lowest rates in the region. They will also provide construction documents for phase nine of the landfill. Lastly, anyone public meetings that will be necessary for any of this work, they will facilitate those meetings.”
