-Floyd County Police Department News Release-

On Tuesday the Floyd County Police Department recognized its 2023 Officer of the Year along with officers of the quarter and retirees at its annual Christmas luncheon.
Pfc. Robert Carrington was awarded Officer of the Year for his lifesaving actions on July 6. Carrington was dispatched to a call on North Avery Road where a woman had been attacked by a large dog and was bleeding profusely. Carrington calmly reassured her as he placed his tourniquet on her to stop the bleeding.
Officer of the First Quarter was awarded to Pfc. Randol Tucker for his actions on March 9, when he entered a burning house to get an elderly, disabled man to safety.
Officer of the Second Quarter was awarded to Sg. Matt Meyers for his outstanding work while assigned to the DEA Task Force.
Officer of the Third Quarter was awarded to Pfc. Ethan Evans for his lifesaving actions with a person who had cut his wrist. Evans applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding until the person could be transported to the hospital.
Officer of the Fourth Quarter was awarded to Pfc. Blake Puckett for his vehicle and foot chase that led to the capture of a subject wanted for several drive-by shootings in the city.
Officer Jerome Poole and Sgt. John Glaze were recognized and congratulated on their retirements.
Poole has worked for 34 with Floyd County. He spent two years in 911 before moving to the police department, where he has worked for more than 32 years. He has served on numerous boards and committees both in Floyd County government and with local civic groups. He is currently serving as secretary for the Coosa Valley Fraternal Order of Police.
Glaze worked for the Floyd County Police Department for more than 10 years. He served most of that time as a shift sergeant on the second shift. Prior to his time with the FCPD, Glaze served eight years in the U.S. Army and 20 years with the Rome Police Department.
