Rome High School senior Yash Garg will have an opportunity to help provide a student voice on education issues across Georgia after being selected to State School Superintendent Richard Woods’ 2026-2027 Student Advisory Council.
Garg was one of 84 students selected from 1,427 applicants across Georgia. Throughout the school year, council members will meet with Woods to discuss education-related issues, share their experiences, and provide feedback on how state policies affect students.
Council members will also serve as ambassadors for the state superintendent and complete service projects benefiting their schools and communities.
“Yash has demonstrated a willingness to lead, serve others, and become involved in issues that impact students both here in Rome and across Georgia,” Rome High School Principal Dr. Christy Epps said. “Having his voice represented on the Student Advisory Council is a tremendous opportunity, and we are proud that he will represent Rome High School.”
Garg brings extensive leadership and service experience to the council. He serves as co-president of Georgia SADD and helped establish Rome High School’s first SADD chapter. He also co-founded Crossing Cultural Boundaries, which has raised more than $17,000 to support students and health initiatives in Georgia and India.
Garg was selected for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program in Social Studies and has conducted research focused on adolescent mental health, cancer, and health disparities.
“Yash continues to Move the Needle through his academic work, leadership, and commitment to serving others,” Rome City Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland said. “This opportunity gives him a chance to take those experiences to the state level and help provide valuable student perspective on issues affecting education across Georgia. We know he will represent Rome High School and Rome City Schools well.”
