The Rome City Commission recognized the Rome Fire Department on Monday for 50 years of fire prevention and education.
The proclamation is ahead of a big celebration at the Forum River Center on October 24 from 10 am–6 pm.
“This is a free event for all ages,” said Shasta Farrar with the Rome-Floyd Fire Department. “It’s 70s-themed, because we were founded in 1976, so we are going with that whole theme. Dust off your 70’s attire and rock out at the Forum. This has been in the planning for about a year, so we are super excited about it all coming to life.”
The celebration will extend beyond the Forum.
“The businesses all down Broad Street are getting involved as well,” Farrar added. “Some of them are going to wear their 70s clothes, some of them are going to have special 70s deals going on, and some of the restaurants will have specialty drinks and appetizers for fire safety. We are going to have so much fun with some old-school carnival games, and we’re going to have DJ Doug Walker there, playing 70s tunes. Then, every hour on the hour, we are going to have cheerleading teams and dance teams from all over Rome and Floyd County come and perform. There will be lots of fun door prizes.”
Again, the Peace, Love, & Fire Safety 50th Celebration is on October 24.
