-News Release-
Rome High School students are showing continued academic growth and strengthening their preparation for opportunities beyond high school, with the Class of 2026 outperforming both Georgia and national averages on the SAT.
Students posted an average SAT score of 1,087, 56 points higher than Georgia’s average of 1,031 and 76 points above the national average of 1,011. Rome High students also improved their average score by 33 points from the Class of 2025. The results reflect the work of 148 graduates who took the SAT during high school.
For Rome City Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland, the results reflect students continuing to challenge themselves and prepare for their next step.
“Our students continue to Move the Needle, and these results reflect the hard work they are putting in every day,” Dr. Holland said. “The SAT is one measure of that work, but what matters most is that our students are building the knowledge and skills they need to pursue college, a career or whatever path they choose after graduation. Our teachers, staff, and families continue to play an important role in helping them reach those goals.”
Rome High students outperformed Georgia averages in both sections of the SAT. Students averaged 556 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, 31 points above the state average of 525, and averaged 531 in math, 25 points higher than Georgia’s average of 506.
Those scores also represented growth from the previous graduating class. The Class of 2025 averaged 538 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 516 in math, giving the Class of 2026 gains of 18 points and 15 points, respectively.
Students also demonstrated progress toward the College Board’s benchmarks for college and career readiness. More than half of Rome High test takers met the benchmarks in both reading and writing and math, while nearly three out of four met the reading and writing benchmarks.
Rome High School Principal Dr. Christy Epps said the results reflect students willing to push themselves academically and prepare for opportunities after high school.
“Our students continue to show what they can accomplish when they challenge themselves academically and take advantage of the opportunities available to them at Rome High School,” Dr. Epps said. “We are proud of the growth they have shown, but we are even more proud of the students behind those results. They have worked hard to prepare themselves for what comes next, and our teachers and staff have worked alongside them throughout that journey.”
For the Class of 2026, the SAT results provide another measure of academic progress as students leave Rome High and begin the next chapter of their lives.
