Labor Day kicked off with a line of people outside of the Rome Civic Center. All of which were waiting in line for some barbecue from the organization known as the Knights of Columbus.
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic Organization dating back to the late 1800’s, where they provided help to Irish widows and orphans. Nowadays the organization is global, and raises funds for nonprofits and charities in local areas across the globe. The Labor Day barbecue is a part of that fundraising, and the largest fundraiser for the chapter of the year. With proceeds of the event going towards the community in the form of donations to organizations like the local YMCA. The funds also go towards wider-reaching nonprofits such as habitat for humanity and Haven Health Clinic.
The barbecue event saw a number of members of the organization organized to cook the barbecue, meet with those that had purchased it in the Civic Center, and to bring it to their cars. With some receiving their order in a drive-thru like fashion.
