Woman accused of hiding fugitive
A Fosters Mill Road woman has been arrested on a felony count of aiding or permitting another to escape custody.
According to the arrest warrant:
61-year-old Kimberlie Kay Edwards assisted a wanted felon by allowing her to hide in the shower inside her camper.
Edwards told authorities that she was alone in the camper.
The wanted felon had been avoiding Chattooga County authorities for about three years.
Woman charged with child cruelty
An East Rome woman was jailed on Monday on charges of 2nd-degree cruelty to children and mandatory education for children between 6 and 16.
According to the arrest warrants:
31-year-old Shelby Brooke Thrash failed to provide adequate dental care for a child who was suffering from severe oral pain and severe tooth decay and needed major dental work.
Thrash also failed to enroll the child in any form of schooling.
Man charged with theft by deception
A man from Fort Lauderdale, Florida is accused of cheating a Rome man out of $45,000.
According to the arrest warrant:
In February 2025, 47-year-old Herbert Titus Wilson sent an email to the victim that made it look like it came from a legitimate business associate.
However, one letter was changed, allowing Wilson to provide new banking and routing information to the victim.
As a result, the victim wired the money to Wilson, which was meant for the purchase of a piece of equipment.
Wilson is charged with theft by deception.
