Rome City Schools helped hundreds of students and families prepare for the first day of school as more than 1,500 people attended the district’s annual Back to School Bash on Saturday at Rome Middle School.
The event provided free school supplies to students while connecting families with valuable community resources and services before the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
One of the day’s most popular offerings was free haircuts, with local barbers and hair salons providing more than 90 haircuts to students to help them start the school year with confidence.
More than a dozen community organizations also participated in the event, distributing school supplies, sharing resources and visiting with families. Among those participating were Atrium Health Floyd, Synovus Bank, the City of Rome Police Department and the Rome Fire Department. There were also numerous food trucks on hand.
Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland said the event demonstrates what can be accomplished when an entire community comes together to support students.
“The Back to School Bash is about much more than handing out school supplies,” Dr. Holland said. “It’s about making sure every student walks into school feeling prepared and every family knows they have a community standing beside them. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, volunteers, and staff, we made a meaningful difference in the lives of hundreds of students and families as they prepare for a successful school year.”
Dr. Holland also thanked the many businesses, organizations, and volunteers whose support made the event possible.
“We are incredibly grateful to every community partner, volunteer, and staff member who invested their time and resources to make this event a success,” Dr. Holland said. “Their commitment to our students reflects what makes Rome such a special place. Together, we are helping ensure every child has the opportunity to begin the school year ready to learn and ready to succeed.”
The Back to School Bash is one of Rome City Schools’ signature annual events, bringing together schools, businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations to remove barriers for students and provide families with the resources they need for a strong start to the school year.
