The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the one-county Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded an unemployment rate of 3.6% in June, up six-tenths of a percentage point over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.7%.
“June brings the temporary seasonal changes we see every year as schools let out for the summer, but as Georgia’s workforce continues to grow, our year-over-year trends remain stable,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “Short-term fluctuations are normal in a resilient economy, and the bigger picture is clear: Georgia remains a state where opportunity is within reach, hard work is rewarded, and every Georgian has the chance to build a better life.”
The labor force in Rome increased by 59 over the month, and 370 from June 2025, reaching 48,342.
Rome finished the month with 46,597 employed residents, down 238 over the month and up by 380 from June 2025.
Rome ended June with 46,800 jobs, down by 200 over the month and 100 from the same time last year.
In June, initial unemployment claims in Rome increased by 191 from the previous month and increased by 79 from the same month a year ago, totaling 294.
