Floyd County gets a clean audit review for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025.
Allison Hightower with Mauldin & Jenkins presented the audit results during Tuesday’s Floyd County Commission meeting.
“Our responsibility as the auditors is to audit the financial statements in accordance with government auditing standards in the U.S. as well as generally accepted auditing standards,” she said. “Our objective is important because we provide reasonable assurance that the financials are free from material misstatements. The financial statements themselves are the responsibility of county management. As for the audit results, we issued an unmodified or a clean opinion. That’s the best opinion to have, so great news there.”
The audit also included a report on the county’s internal control over financial reporting and compliance. There were no deficiencies found.
“We also issued a report on the county’s major federal programs,” Hightower said. “Again, that was a clean, unmodified opinion. We had to audit three major federal programs this year since the county extended over $1 million in federal grant program money. Those programs were the CSLFRF, which is the COVID program; the hazard mitigation grant program; and then your airport program.”
The audit was completed in June and will be submitted to the Government Financial Officers Association, which will issue Floyd County a certificate of achievement and excellence in financial reporting.
