The Floyd County Commission has approved a construction contract for the rehabilitation of Runway 1/19 at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport.
Northwest Georgia Paving Inc. was awarded the contract, according to Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord.
“No budget amendment is needed, and the total amount of the contract is $3,846,805.50,” he said.
The scope of work includes sealing existing cracks, application of a single surface treatment, milling of bituminous pavement, placement of asphalt leveling and surface mixes, and construction of asphalt blast pads, as well as pavement marking, pavement grooving, and shoulder dressing.
Also on Tuesday, commissioners awarded a contract for obstruction mitigation for the runway 7 and 25 approaches to LRS Land Services, LLC.
The project consists of tree and shrub clearing using non-ground disturbing measures, off-site disposal of related waste materials, and site restoration of the project limits.
The commission also approved the purchase of security cameras from Logical Systems Inc. in the amount of $26,265 for the Historic Floyd County Courthouse.
The cameras will provide another layer of security for the 134-year-old structure, which was damaged in a fire on March 23.
Insurance money received by the county following the fire is being used to pay for the cameras.
