The Bakersfield Police Department in California announced on Wednesday that a hostage standoff ended early in the morning.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and all hostages were unharmed, police said.
“On Wednesday, June 3, at approximately 4:20 a.m., the hostage situation concluded following an officer-involved shooting involving Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel. Bakersfield Police Department personnel were not involved in the use of force. All hostages were located unharmed and received medical evaluation and treatment at the scene,” the department noted in an updated statement Wednesday morning.
Bakersfield police previously said Tuesday that a man had barricaded himself in a Chase Bank building with some community members.
The department noted in a post on X, “TRAFFIC UPDATE: Closures are currently in effect between Truxtun Avenue and 18th Street, and between H Street and K Street. Please avoid the area if possible and allow extra travel time this morning.”

“The Bakersfield Police Department received a call at approximately 1:00 p.m. regarding reports of a bomb threat at the Chase Bank building located at the center of Chester Avenue and 17th Street,” the police department said Tuesday.
“During the investigation, it was determined that an adult male subject had barricaded himself inside the building with several community members,” the department added.

The department later announced in an X post issued just after midnight ET that it had “negotiated the release of a second hostage.”
“There are currently no injuries reported,” the post noted at the time.
JPMorgan Chase provided Fox News Digital with a statement earlier Wednesday morning, noting, “We are aware of the ongoing situation occurring at the building where our branch is located on the ground floor. The branch is currently empty, and we are working with authorities.”
