The Floyd County Commission has recognized Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Corporal Jordan Taylor for his exemplary actions during a shooting call in East Rome, near Banty Jones Park, on April 8.
Corporal Taylor was one of the first officers to arrive on scene, according to Captain Steve Acker with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.
“Upon arrival, Corporal Taylor found a mother, holding her 6-year-old son,” Acker said. “The child had a visible gunshot wound to his upper right leg. Corporal Taylor quickly applied a tourniquet to the child’s leg, just above the wound, to stop the bleeding. Upon arrival of EMS, Corporal Taylor picked the child up and placed him on the gurney for EMS to transport him to the hospital.”
Immediately after ensuring the child received medical care, Corporal Taylor acted on information from witnesses who advised that a person involved in the shooting was inside a nearby apartment.
“Corporal Taylor quickly asked two officers at the scene to assist him in approaching the apartment to make contact with the individual,” Acker said. “Upon making contact with the individual, Corporal Taylor detained him and transferred him to the Rome Police Department custody.”
According to Acker, Corporal Taylor’s quick thinking, composure, and decisive actions during a tense and chaotic situation reflect great credit upon himself, the Sheriff’s Office, and Floyd County.
