The Floyd County Commission has voted to expand the reach of a joint development authority with neighboring counties by passing a resolution to add Paulding County to the Joint Bartow, Floyd, and Polk County Development Authority.
The purpose of a multi-county authority, formed in 2025, is to allow the entity to work across county lines to recruit industries to locate in its jurisdiction.
“This has been in the works for several weeks,” said Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord. “I will also add that we do have multiple development authorities here in Floyd County. Having an additional multi-county authority is a positive for job tax credits that are available at the state level.”
The addition of Paulding County will also bring the Highway 278 corridor into the fold.
“As we initially stated, it was for the development of the Highway 411 corridor for industrial and economic purposes between Rome and Cartersville,” McCord said. “The Highway 101 corridor between Rome and Rockmart, the Highway 27 corridor between Rome and Cedartown, the Highway 113 corridor between Rockmart and Cartersville, and adding the Highway 278 corridor between Rockmart and Dallas will be a simple and recommended addition to our group. They are part of our area commissioner’s group.”
Also, on Tuesday, the Floyd County Commission approved a special use permit for the former Piggly Wiggly site on Martha Berry Highway to allow for climate-controlled storage units.
