The Rome City Commission is expected to approve a construction contract for Garrard Park to Pennant Construction when it meets on Monday.
In January, the city commission approved a memorandum of understanding with the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority for the park project located at the former GE site in West Rome.
According to that MOU, the project will consist of a publicly-owned and maintained community recreational park having two inclusive playgrounds serving ages 2–5 and ages 5–12, a covered pavilion with an attached restroom facility and picnic tables, a pedal park/pump track, internal walking connections, and access to existing trail systems.
The estimated cost is $1,733,680, consisting of $1,573,680 in grant funds and a $160,000 cash match or cash contribution provided by the City of Rome.
The city will also be responsible for the construction, while the housing authority will be responsible for submitting reimbursement requests to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
The Rome City Commission will also conduct a public hearing on Monday regarding a rezoning request for 700 Maple Avenue.
The applicant is seeking a zoning change from multi-family residential to urban mixed-use to allow for more potential uses.
The planning commission voted 7-0 to recommend approval.
Monday’s Rome City Commission meeting begins at 6:30 pm at Rome City Hall.
During the caucus, which starts at 5 pm, the commission will hear from Jaleesa Foster, Club Director of the NWGA Boys & Girls Club, and Karl Gyden, President of the 100 Black Men of Rome-NWGA.
