The Rome Alcohol Control Commission is expected to revisit the issue of alcohol distance requirements when it meets on Monday.
During its March meeting, the ACC heard from someone wishing to open a wine bar on Third Avenue—a location within 300 feet of a church.
While the state of Georgia does not offer protective buffers between beer and wine outlets and churches, the City of Rome does.
One possible consideration is to remove or reduce the church buffers in the Central Business Commercial (CBC) zoning district.
If these distances are amended, conditions could be attached that would prohibit the alcohol establishment from serving alcohol during traditional church hours.
There was discussion concerning this concept, but the ACC was not prepared to take any action during last month’s meeting.
Also on the agenda for Monday’s meeting are Special Entertainment Requests for Peachy Pub at 325 Broad Street and a request for a new Beer and Wine Package License at 611 Shorter Avenue.
Monday’s ACC meeting begins at 5 pm at Rome City Hall.
