-Staff reports-
Early voting is underway in the special election runoff for Congress.
Voting will take place through Thursday, April 2 at the Floyd County Election Center only.
To ensure voter access during the limited four-day early voting period, early voting will remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Election Day is Tuesday, April 7.
Please note that April 3 is a state holiday and early voting cannot legally be conducted on that day.
Republican Clay Fuller and Democrat Shawn Harris are squaring off in the runoff.
The winner will head to Washington to fill the unexpired term of former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene in the U.S. House of Representatives.
However, the campaign for the 14th District seat will not end as both candidates have qualified to run in their party’s primaries in May.
The General Election in November will decide who will serve a full two-year term.
There is also a runoff for State Senate in the 53rd District between Republican Lanny Thomas and Democrat Jack Zibluk to fill the unexpired term of Colton Moore, who stepped down to run for Congress.
The 53rd District includes the extreme northern portion of Floyd County, primarily the Armuchee area.
