The Floyd County Tax Commissioner, Tax Assessor, and Tag Office are all in their new home in the joint law enforcement center.
The move was made necessary following a fire that caused extensive damage to the Historic Floyd County Courthouse on Monday.
Although almost everything in the old courthouse was lost, thousands of dollars in cash in the safes were recovered.
And, as if written as part of a movie script, the American Flag and the Georgia Flag in the courthouse also escaped being damaged by the flames.
The Tax Office was fully functional on Thursday, and the processing of tag or title functions will be available soon.
On Thursday, local businesses were at the joint law enforcement center, providing meals for Rome-Floyd County firefighters, who have been at the scene since Monday’s fire.
The effort was organized by Alma McCool with Farmer’s Insurance.
For those wanting to commemorate the Historic Floyd County Courthouse, free stickers have been printed and are available at the county administration building on Fourth Avenue and at Rome City Hall.
