The Rome Police Department is warning the public about a new scam involving fake text messages claiming to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
These messages may falsely state that your driver’s license is suspended, your vehicle registration has been revoked, or your credit score is at risk
These are scare tactics designed to trick you into clicking a malicious link.
DO NOT click links in unsolicited messages because the DMV will NEVER send threatening texts like these.
You can verify suspicious messages by contacting the DMV directly.
